With his vast experience in the life sciences arena Bart provides invaluable commercial expertise in the team. He has developed a keen sense of creating value in transactions.
After prior experience in general private equity (buy outs), Bart was responsible for the first life sciences investment of ABN AMRO; Rhein Biotech. This company floated on the Neuer Markt stock exchange in Frankfurt in 1999. In 2000 Bart arranged an acquisition financing that enabled Rhein Biotech to acquire Korea Green Cross Vaccines Corporation. This transaction boosted the stock value of the company after which the shares were successfully divested. Another successful investment was made by him in Ubisys, an antibody company that later merged with Introgene into Crucell. Crucell was successfully floated to the Amsterdam stock exchange after which the shares were successfully divested, leading to a substantial profit for the fund.
Seeing the value of building an investment portfolio in life sciences, in 2000 Bart founded the ABN AMRO Capital Life Sciences Team and expanded it to its current size. As the team grew, he stayed active on the operational side, realizing multiple investments and taking in several board positions. Bart has built a strong and diversified investment team and contributes operational and commercial experience to team and the portfolio companies.
