Avi has been working with Forbion since early 2007 as Venture Partner with a special focus on the Medical Devices space.

Avi was partner at Giza Venture Capital, an Israel-based diversified venture capital fund managing over 600 million dollars where he established and headed the life science practice. The life science activity focused on medical technologies and drug development.

During that period Avi was co-founder of BiolineRx, an Israeli drug development company that went public as the biggest biomedical IPO on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE). Avi was CEO and Chairman of Neovasc (interventional cardiology) and founder of BiolojicDesign (antibody development).

Prior to Giza Avi was a psychiatrist and served as a Deputy Director General of The Abarbanel Mental Health Center, Tel Aviv University Medical School and was the head of the residency program of the medical school. He was also the chief editor of the Israel National Boards of Psychiatry.

Avi is on the Board of NiTi Surgical Solutions, Pathway Medical , and Circulite.

Avi had his residency in psychiatry and postdoctoral fellowship in psychopharmacology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. There, he served as the chief of the clinical unit of the Division of Neuroscience, New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia Presbyterian Medical center.

After graduating the Tel Aviv University Medical School, Avi served as the Chief Medical Officer of the Naval Commando (Navy Seals) of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).Avi joined Giza after completing an MBA program at the Tel Aviv University.
